Human-Centric Innovation (Social Robots): Queen Mary University's Breakthrough in AI Webinars Replay
I was invited by Queen Mary University to host three out of six of their Breakthroughs in AI webinars. It was an honor and this is the replay of the Human-centric Innovation webinar!
Join me in today's engaging episode where we dive into the mesmerizing world of social robotics and the dynamics of human-robot communication. I am joined by Dr. Lorenzo Jamone and Professor Pat Healey.
Dr. Jamone is a Senior Lecturer in Robotics at Queen Mary, a Turing Fellow and the Director of the CRISP group. CRISP, or Cognitive Robotics and Intelligent Systems for the People, focuses on developing robots to enhance human life and understand cognition. The focus is for the robots to use their hands as intelligently as humans do.
Professor Pat Healey is a renowned figure in the field of human interaction and cognitive science. He's the Head of the Cognitive Science Research Group at Queen Mary, University of London, and a former Turing Fellow. He is also now the head of the new Centre for Human-Centered Computing and formerly the Senior Researcher in Residence at the Digital Catapult. His work primarily focuses on human-human interaction and developing technologies for improved communication.
The conversation uncovers the fascinating ways in which robots can perceive and interact with humans through visuo-haptic technologies, and how these interactions are revolutionizing our approach to robotics. We discuss the importance of developing robots that can not only understand but also appropriately respond to human emotions and cues, making them more than just machines but true social companions. Do robots need to blush to improve our interaction with them? Learn about it in today's episode!
